Amangamek Wipit Lodge #470

Vigil Induction

August 14-15, 2004

Goshen Scout Reservation

(Weather Advisory 8/13)

To All Lodge Recipients--

This is a hurried attempt to get in touch with any members and candidates who were planning to go to Goshen tomorrow to participate in the Vigil weekend. There is rain forcast for much of tomorrow evening and into perhaps early Sunday. These condiditions are much less than ideal for an all-night Vigil and therefore, Lodge Adviser Jim Mitchell has decided to officially cancel the Vigil. Area and Chapter Advisers, please try to get word out to your people.

Because we are making this decision with the best information available, but relatively late, there will certainly be some who do not get the word and travel to Goshen. There will be a small staff there to carry out the Vigil for them, in the best possible conditions that can be arranged. This way, they will not have made the trip in vain.

But, we should emphaize, the Vigil is meant to be a contemplative event. Candidates are encouraged to put off their Vigil if they are not already enroute. A second Vigil opportunity is already scheduled for Thanksgiving Friday and it is almost certain that at least one more will need to be scheduled in the fall, probably in the October timeframe.

Our thanks to all who have helped in the planning of this weekend and our regrets that the hurricane season started a bit early this year.

In summary, if you still go or do not get the word, a Vigil will be held for you. If you do get this message, we hope you will consider a later Vigil when, hopefully, the weather will be better.

Yours in Service,

Ken Davis
Associate Lodge Adviser--Administration
